NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme Course
5th/6th February 2011
The
National Small-Bore Rifle Association runs this scheme to introduce young people
to competition rifle shooting. This course will cover all of the basic skills you
need to shoot standing air rifle as well as the background information you need
to know to shoot legally and safely.
The course is being run
by experienced staff, including members of the GB Junior Rifle Squad, so that you
can get the best grounding possible in rifle shooting. A number of young people
who have started their shooting on this very course have gone on to shoot for Great
Britain at home and abroad and there is no reason why you couldn’t be doing that
too. On a more down to earth level, the course will cover all or parts of various
training schemes such as the Scout Association
proficiency badges or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
The course is very hands on, with as much time as possible devoted to actually shooting.
You will learn to shoot on modern compressed
air rifles (not break barrel spring rifles) which are used by everyone in serious
competition. The course will take you from the basic operation of the rifle all
the way to your own competition at the end of the course. You will not be competing
against each other (although you may find you do want to beat the people around
you) but for scores. The higher the score you achieve the better the final qualification
(and badge) you get.
